Lists of commands that open from a button: the More menu, or a pull-down of actions.
When to use
- Secondary and rare actions that would crowd the toolbar.
- Actions on a row or a card.
Best practices
- Items are verbs in Title Case without articles: “Duplicate”, “Move to Folder…”.
- Group related items with separators and optional section labels. Keep submenus to one level.
- Destructive items use the destructive style, sit last, and still confirm.
- Show each item’s keyboard shortcut at its trailing edge.
- Hide items that can never apply here; disable the ones that can’t apply right now.
Avoid
- Choosing a value. Use a pop-up button.
- Hiding the main action of a screen in a menu.
