A date field people can type in or pick from a calendar, for one day or a range.

Best practices

  • Show dates in the reader’s locale. In prose, write them out (“2 October 2026”), never as ambiguous numbers.
  • Ranges default to something useful, such as today or this month, and say what they cover.
  • Limit the range when only some dates make sense, such as no future dates for something that already happened.
  • On phones, open the system picker.

Avoid

Three separate fields for day, month and year.
