QIG Qwantarc
Interface Guidelines
How Qwantarc designs software people rely on all day: the ideas behind every screen, the foundations they share, the patterns that repeat and the components they’re built from, on any platform and in any technology.
Principles
When a rule doesn’t cover a case, these decide it.
- Task firstA screen leads with the job it exists for. Secondary controls move into menus, inspectors and sheets, so the main task is never crowded out.
- People stay in controlGuidance can be skipped, destructive work is confirmed or can be undone, and nothing acts without being asked.
- Clarity over decorationLegible type, purposeful colour and room to breathe. Content comes before chrome, and every visual element earns its place.
- One vocabularyThe same job uses the same control, in the same place, with the same words, everywhere in a product and across products.
- Depth with purposeContent sits on opaque surfaces. Controls and navigation float above it on Glass, so people always know what they can act on and what they are reading.
- Adapts to people and placesLight and dark, text size, pointer or touch, keyboard-only use and accessibility settings are first-class, not afterthoughts.
- Fast where work is frequentActions people repeat all day happen instantly, without animation, with the cursor where they need it and a shortcut for the command.
- Trustworthy with dataSay what will happen before it happens, and make the consequences for money, records and people explicit.
- Crafted detailsShared design values only, concentric corners, aligned figures, consistent motion, and real empty, loading and error states.
The guidelines
90 pages in five sections.
- 01
Getting started
The principles and rules underneath every screen, and how to build one from the ground up.
- 02
Foundations
Colour, type, layout, materials, motion, icons, accessibility, privacy and writing: what every screen shares.
- 03
Patterns
Layouts and flows that repeat across products, from entering data to undoing a mistake.
- 04
Components
Every control and view: when to use it, when not to, and the rules it follows.
- 05
Resources
Every design value, the review checklist and a record of what changed.

Principles
Nine ideas sit under every decision in QIG. When a rule doesn’t cover a case, these decide it.
- 01 / Getting started
Rules
Eighteen rules every screen follows. Reviews check them first, and pages across the guidelines refer to them by number.

Designing a screen
From a blank canvas to a reviewed screen: find the pattern, compose components, apply the foundations, write, check.
- 02 / Foundations
Colour
Colour carries meaning and interactivity, so it is used sparingly and always backed by words or a symbol.
- 02 / Foundations
Materials
Glass lifts navigation and controls above content, which always stays on opaque surfaces.
- 04 / Components
Buttons
Capsule buttons in roles, from the one prominent action of a view to quiet, plain and destructive ones.
